The St. George Fishermen’s Memorial is located at the Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, Maine. This five-foot-high black granite tablet stands as a tribute to 11 local fishermen who have been lost at sea since 1941, including Gary Thorbjornson.

Mounted on a beautifully crafted compass rose, the memorial offers a place of remembrance and reflection for the community and visitors alike.

Fundraising for the memorial began after the tragic loss of fisherman Gary Thorbjornson, whose vessel, the Sirius, sank at sea. Through the dedication of volunteers and community members — hosting raffles, suppers, and auctions — the funds were raised to bring this vision to life.

More than 100 people attended the heartfelt dedication ceremony, underscoring the strong ties and deep respect this community holds for its fishermen and the sea.
